Gaelic language funding for schools: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

The amount of Gaelic funding given to schools, for each school with their name.

Response

The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for because the funding of individual schools is a matter for local authorities and we do not collect the information for school specific expenditure.

The Scottish Government Gaelic Specific Grant is given to Local Authorities to support Gaelic education in their area, however we do not collect or hold data on how each authority distributes that funding to specific school. The Gaelic Specific Grant represents additional funding provided by the Scottish Government and does not reflect the totality of spend that local authorities incur in their delivery of Gaelic Medium Education in their area. I have attached below a table that shows the amounts allocated to local authorities in 24/25 & 25/26 for the Gaelic Specific Grant, as this is the closest data we hold to your request. Data on the amount spent on each school would have to be requested from
each individual local authority.
