You asked for the following information:

1. How many civil servants have relocated from the rest of the UK to work in Scotland in each of the last three years?

And how many have gone the opposite way in each of the last three years?

We only hold information on civil servants who are employed by the Scottish Government and not, for example, civil servants who work for other Government Departments (e.g. HMRC, Cabinet Office etc) who may have been transferred / relocated within that Department to a work location in Scotland and vice versa.

We have interpreted your question to mean Scottish Government Civil Servants who have been relocated / transferred from a Scottish Government work location in the rest of the UK to a Scottish Government work location in Scotland. As we only have one workplace in the rest of the UK, this in practice means relocations and transfers from Scotland House in London to a workplace in Scotland and vice versa. Details for each of the last three years are provided below.

The number of civil servants working for Scottish Government who have been relocated from Scotland House in London to work in Scotland in each of the last three years is as follows:

• 2024-2025 – 2
• 2023-2024 – 2
• 2022-2023 – 2

And the number that have relocated from a Scottish Government workplace in Scotland to Scotland House London is as follows:

• 2024-2025 – 0
• 2023-2024 – 3
• 2022-2023 – 1
