Traffic density figures on section of A9: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

I searched for road statistics on UK Departement of Transport count points maps:

https://roadtraffic.dft.gov.uk/#12/57.8197/-4.3315/basemap-countpoints

But datasets are sporadic and annual (not seasonal or daily). I believe there is a substantial difference in 'Motor Vehicles' counts between spring and summer for example...

I guess traffic is the busiest on the A9 north of Inverness to Wick such as on point 30721:

https://roadtraffic.dft.gov.uk/manualcountpoints/30721

while points 10938 (on A838 in hte north) and points 40935 (on A836 in the west) are probably less busy but some part on single track roads:

https://roadtraffic.dft.gov.uk/manualcountpoints/10938

https://roadtraffic.dft.gov.uk/manualcountpoints/40935

Would you have any raw 'daily' counts for traffic at these locations for a post-covid year please? I am trying to figure a typical summer (July/August) day vs spring day? .

Response

I am afraid we do not have counters for the A836 and A838 as they are non trunk roads operated by Highland Council. Highland Council may be able to provide information regarding traffic counts on these, or similar, roads: Freedom of Information | Freedom of information | The Highland Council.

In the table below, I have provided monthly traffic counts for point ‘30721’ on the A9. I have included monthly figures from March to August as they differ a fair amount and have included a ‘spring’ figure of March-May.
