HMS Glasgow naming ceremony: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Specifically, were any Scottish Government officials invited to attend the naming ceremony in Glasgow Type 26 Frigate HMS Glasgow last month.

If any officials were invited and declined to attend, could you provide the reasons for their refusal? If any refusals occurred, I would also like to request copies of any emails or correspondence relating to these decisions, specifically communications between Scottish Government officials regarding the refusal to attend.

Response

In response to your query I am defining Scottish Government officials as Civil Servants, who are nonpolitical staff who support the work of the Scottish Ministers.

While officials were not specifically invited to attend the HMS Glasgow naming ceremony, I can confirm that a policy official from the Directorate for Economic Development and a representative from Ministerial Private Office were present in support of the then Minister for Employment and Investment, who represented the Scottish Government at this event.
