Accountant in Bankruptcy legal services information: FOI release

Information requested

1. The number of FTE employees who work in Accountant in Bankruptcy’s internal legal team, including all lawyers, solicitors, etc. in a) Financial Year 2022/23, b) Financial Year 2023/24, and c) Financial Year 2024/25.

2. The total amount spent by Accountant in Bankruptcy on internal legal services, including the salaries of employees in the legal team, expenses, etc. in a) Financial Year 2022/23, b) Financial Year 2023/24, and c) Financial Year 2024/25.

3. The total amount spent by Accountant in Bankruptcy on external legal services in a) Financial Year 2022/23, b) Financial Year 2023/24, and c) Financial Year 2024/25.

Response

The Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) does not have an internal legal team. However, for the years 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and part of 2024/2025 as part of our Legal Services Contract with Harper Macleod a secondee from the company was based in AiB. They were situated within our Policy Development Team for six month periods, working primarily on policy matters and would provide advice on specific matters as and when appropriate.

The information you requested is shown in the table you provided, with the addition of the legal secondee costs, on Annex A to this letter.
