You asked for information on the number of refugees that have council accommodation in Glasgow.

Response

The Scottish Government does not hold information on the total number of refugees that have council accommodation in Glasgow. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

However, it does have some partial information relating to refugee households applying for homelessness.

The table below shows the number of a) refugee households and b) number of people within refugee households in Glasgow with a homelessness application outcome of ‘local authority tenancy’. This relates to households assessed as unintentionally homeless/threatened with homelessness, where contact was maintained until case closure. The years relate to date of case closure.

A refugee household for these purposes is where the main applicant has an eligibility status of either:

  • Ukrainian national, lawfully present in the UK through the Ukraine Family Scheme or Homes for Ukraine (private or super sponsor) visa scheme (and had been living in Ukraine on or before 1 January 2022); or
  • Not a national of Britain, Switzerland, an EEA country pre EU expansion in 2004, an A8 country, or any country that joined the EU since 2004, but are lawfully present in the UK (e.g. because they have been granted refugee status or leave to remain) and meet the criteria for eligibility.

Figures of less than 5 have been displayed as <5 for disclosure control purposes.

Additionally, there were 30 (single person) refugee households who applied for homelessness support in Glasgow in a local authority temporary accommodation as at 30 September 2024.
