Breakdown of unpaid Council Tax: FOI release

Unpaid Council Tax. Last 2/3 years would suffice in Scotland.

In particular East Renfrewshire.

I enclose a copy of all of the information you requested in the attached spreadsheet file, titled FOI 202500460011_CT_Billed-Recieved_2021-22_2023-24.xlsx. I have provided three years’ worth of the most recently available data, which includes the tax years spanning 2021-22 – 2023-24. The data presented includes figures for “billed” and “received” amounts of Council Tax. The difference between the billed and received amounts is termed the “uncollected” amount. I have provided data for Scotland and all 32 Local Authorities, highlighting the figures for East Renfrewshire. The next issue of Council Tax Collection Statistics, for the tax year 2024-25, will be published in June 2025. Some of the information you have requested is publicly available from links on the following Scottish Government webpage: Supporting documents - Council Tax Collection Statistics, 2023-24 - gov.scot, where you will find links to both the most recently published report, Council Tax Collection Statistics, 2023-24, and data, Tables - Council Tax Collection Statistics, 2023-24, which includes figures on uncollected Council Tax across Scotland back to the tax year 1999-2000. Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you.
