Education Scotland Diversity, Equity and Inclusion spend: FOI release

Information requested

How much money has been spent or allocated, via funding or resources, in the following areas:

• Decolonizing the curriculum for excellence
• LGBT(Q+)
• Gender Equality/Equity
• Anti-racism
• Equality impact assessments
• Equality outcomes reporting

I request this information by year, for the last ten years (or since records began where fewer than ten years have been recorded), by local authority (where applicable), and for both your organisation’s internal activities (staff training, research etc.) as well as for the services you provide institutions, teachers, and government.

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Education Scotland does not have the information you have requested. A range of Education Scotland staff contribute to work in these areas through the organisation’s work on curriculum design, professional learning and inclusion and wellbeing. We do not hold figures for staff time and resources spent on each individual area identified in your request, partly because of the overlapping nature of these themes.

This is therefore a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that Education Scotland does not record the information you have requested with the exception of budget allocated to Decolonisation of the Curriculum for Excellence where I can confirm that in financial year 2024/25 £10,000 was allocated for non-staff costs.

However, while we do not record the other information you have requested, I can confirm that Education Scotland has received funding from the Scottish Government for the following workstreams:

• Mentors in Violence Prevention;
• Racial Literacy;
• Improving Gender Balance and Equalities;
• Inclusion;
• Tackling sectarianism; and
• Respecting Rights

which, although not directly comparable to the areas in your request, you may find helpful. The funding provided is set out in Annex A attached.
