Remediable Service Statement information for Police Pensions: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

With regards to the McCloud Remedy which was introduced in respect of Public Sector Pensions, I am writing to establish the following with regards to Police Pensions only.

1. In relation to Police Officers who retired as of 1st April 2022 and who would have been affected by the McCloud Remedy, how many officers have received their Remediable Service Statements? This is in relation to officers who have retired and not received their full pension entitlement, not those who are retiring and receiving all they are entitled to.

2. How many retired Police Officers are waiting to receive their RSS (as per circumstances detailed in 1 above)?

3. Of those of who have received their RSS (as detailed above), how many have received their payment?

4. How long has it taken to settle these payments?

For clarity, the figures requested are in relation to those retired officers who retired between 1st April 2022 and the introduction of the remedy - not those officers who are receiving their RSS at point of retirement and receiving all their entitlement at retirement.

Response

1. 2,795 protected members as of 31 March 2025 have received their RSS and as of this date no tapered and no unprotected members have been issued with an RSS.

2. 2,475 Police Officers are yet to receive an RSS, which covers the remainder of protected, unprotected and tapered members.

3. As of date of this FOI submission 96 responses were received and processed for payment.

4. The payments were settled within the next earliest payroll following the receipt of the response.
