Police Pension Remedy Statement statistics: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

1. As of 16.03.25, how many former police officers have been issued with their Remedy Statements?

2. The SPPA has publicly stated that the majority of those former officers will receive their Remedy Statements by 31.03.25, what information is available regarding the planned schedule of these being issued?

3. Further to Request 2 above, what is the planned schedule for those Statements you have said will be issued between 1 April and 31 May 25?

4. As repeated FOI requests have been submitted to SPPA requesting similar information, to Request 1 above, what information do you have as to why such information is not regularly published proactively?

Response

1. As of 16.03.25, 744 former police officers had been issued with their Remedy Statements.

2. The majority of RSS will be issued via an automated process, therefore the numbers and schedule will be very much dependent on how many are successfully processed. Any that aren’t successful will be picked up and processed manually.

3. Due to the variability of processing the manual cases, there are not sufficient metrics available to be able to set a formal schedule.

4. The SPPA is proactively communicating with members across all schemes, including those who are retired, through monthly website updates and other forms of targeted communication, to keep members informed and updated about the delivery of RSS.

Updates can be found in the 'Latest News' and 'Remedy Hub' sections of the SPPA website at the following links:

Members can sign up to receive monthly updates which will be issued direct by email.
