Scottish Agricultural Wages Board payments: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

(1) Do members of the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board receive any (i) payment or (ii) any payment of expenses from the Scottish Government?

(2) If the answer to either of the points noted in (1) are yes. Could you outline how much each member is paid or how much of their expenses are covered by the Scottish Government?

Response

The members of the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board is made up of;

6 members from the employers side. They are represented by the National Farmers Union of Scotland (NFUS) and Scottish Land & Estates.

6 members from the employee side. They are represented by UNITE the Union.

5 Independent members, 1 of whom is the Chair.

In answer to point (1).(i).The Independent members receive payment from the Scottish Government for their time spent on Board work. Employers and employees representatives do not receive any payment from Scottish Government.

In answer to point (1).(ii). The Independent members can make reasonable T&S claims to be reimbursed for travel in the course of their duties such as for train tickets.

In answer to point (2). The rates that can be claimed by SAWB independent members, and the Chair can be seen below.

The rates for the chair are higher to reflect the added responsibility of the role.

The amounts paid will vary depending on the amount of work carried out by the Independent Board members. As previously stated in answer to Point 1.(ii). The Independent members can make reasonable T&S claims to be reimbursed for travel in the course of their duties. This will also vary depending on the work carried out by Board members.
