Police Pension Remedy and Remediable Service Statement information: FOI release

Information requested

1) On 31st March 2022, how many serving police officers within the Police Service of Scotland were affected by the 2015 Pension Remedy;

2) Between 1st April 2022 and 30th September 2023, how many of the officers listed in point 1, retired from the Police Service of Scotland;

3) At the date of submission, how many of the officers listed in point 2, have been issued with RSS documentation. Please express this information as a numerical figure, and also as a percentage of the total number of officers listed in point 2;

4) Between 1st October 2023 and the date of submission of this FOI, how many of the officers listed in point 1, retired from the Police Service of Scotland;

5) At the date of submission, how many of the officers listed in point 4, have been issued with RSS documentation. Please express this information as a numerical figure, and also as a percentage of the total number of officers listed in point 4;

6) At the date of submission, how many remaining serving police officers within the Police Service of Scotland are affected by the 2015 Pension Remedy;

7) At the date of submission, how many of the remaining serving police officers listed in point 6, have been issued with RSS documentation. Please express this information as a numerical figure, and also as a percentage of the total number of officers listed in point 6.

Response

1) On 31st March 2022, approximately 10,000 serving police officers within the Police Service of Scotland were affected by the 2015 Pension Remedy.

2) Between 1st April 2022 and 30th September 2023, approximately 1,100 of the officers listed in point 1, retired from the Police Service of Scotland.

3) At the date of submission, 95 of the officers listed in point 2, have been issued with RSS documentation.

4) Between 1st October 2023 and the date of submission of this FOI, 829 of the officers listed in point 1, retired from the Police Service of Scotland.

5) At the date of submission, all (100%) of the officers listed in point 4, have been issued with RSS documentation.

6) There are approximately 8,000 police officers who are active in the scheme.

7) As of 6th March 2025, over 7,800 ABS-RSS have been sent out (approximately 98%).
