Teacher judgement - commercially produced assessment tools information: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

A small proportion of local authorities reported using commercially produced assessment tools as part of their evidence gathering. What local authorities? What commercially produced assessment tools?

Response

The information you have requested is as follows:

1. Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Dumfries & Galloway and Dundee City all reported using commercially produced assessment tools as part of their evidence gathering. It is possible that other local authorities use these tools but they did not mention this when providing information about their quality assurance processes.

2. Tools which were mentioned include the following: PIRA (Progress in Reading Assessment), PUMA (Progress in Understanding Mathematics Assessment), InCAS (Interactive Computerised Assessment System), PIPS (Cambridge CEM), CAT (Cognitive Abilities Tests), and ALTA Maths.

In some cases local authorities did not specify the tools, but mentioned that commercially produced assessment tools were used.
