Grants paid to the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA): FOI release

Information requested

How many grants the Scottish Government have paid the Scottish SSPCA from the year 2020/21 up to the present date? Could you also please explain to each amount granted to the charity of what it was paid to them for example services consultations etc It would be appreciated.

Response

Since 2020-21, two grants have been provided, the details of which are set out below.

In financial year 2020-21, the Scottish Government's Justice Division provided a grant of £67,500. This grant was for the delivery of a campaign on responsible dog ownership and dog control. The full grant was spent on delivering this campaign.

In financial year 2020-21, the Scottish Government's Animal Welfare Team provided a grant of £135,000. This grant was for the delivery of a campaign to highlight the unlicensed puppy trade and to promote responsible buying of a puppy. The final amount claimed for delivery of the campaign was £128,907.

The Scottish SPCA was tasked with delivering these campaigns due to Scottish Government resources being deployed to the Covid-19 outbreak.
