Peregrine Falcon Poison Reports: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004

Information requested

I am currently carrying out research looking at the levels of biocides and pesticides in peregrine falcons tested under the WIIS scheme in the UK. I have collected data from birds found in England, Scotland and Wales. However, when I have made enquiries relating to birds tested from Northern Ireland, I was advised that no records were kept of these tests and that this analysis was carried out in Scotland by SASA, and that should approach you for this information.

I am therefore submitting a request under the Environmental Information Regulation 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act for these final analytical reports (including the four figure grid reference if available) for the following investigations (to be sent by email):

No record of samples from this case being tested at SASA. However, we did test samples from a falcon with reference number 2014- 14554. The formatting on the HSE website has obscured the WIIS reference number (see row 116 here) The results for that case are included in the response.

Response

The WIIS testing relating to samples from Northern Ireland has been done by SASA on behalf of AFBI since 2013. The results are reported to AFBI in spreadsheet format. AFBI have confirmed that the data you have requested can be released to you in that format. The attached spreadsheet contains most of the information you requested. We do not have four figure grid references for any of the incidents you requested. Location (county) data, obtained from the WIIS quarterly results published on the HSE website, are included in the spreadsheet.

For three of the cases you have listed (reference numbers 2018-13757, 2016-7434, and 2015-15909), we have two sets of samples, identified as items A and B. The results from these items have also been included.

There is no record of samples from case 2014-1455 being tested at SASA. However, from the HSE website (see link above) I note that a peregrine falcon with reference number 2014-14554 was tested by SASA, on behalf of AFBI, and the results for that case are included in the response.
