Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme statistics on individuals barred from working with specific groups: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You asked a follow-up question to request 202400444660, which concerned barring statistics. Your request was:

"Thank you for your response which was as follows:

1. The total number of 'listed' individuals currently barred from working with children under the PVG Scheme.

1201

2. The total number of 'listed' individuals currently barred from working with protected adults under the PVG Scheme.

7425

3. The total number of 'listed' individuals currently barred from working with both children and protected adults under the PVG Scheme.

4191

Thank you for this. It is, however, difficult to discern exactly the overlap from the first two sets. I.e. it is difficult to know just how many people on list one and list two have been collated to form list three.

Could you therefore provide us with the total number of individuals listed in the PVG scheme?"

Response

N.B. - in our previous response (ref 202400444660), we provided the children’s totals and adults totals the wrong way round. That is, the total barred from working with children should have been 7425, and the total barred from working with adults should have been 1201. Please accept my apologies for this error.

I have provided updated statistics as of 10 January 2025, which includes the total number of barred individuals. This is derived from the other three groups, for which there is no overlap. I've added key words which I hope makes our answers clearer.

Total barred from working with Children only

7453

Total barred from working with Adults only

1203

Total barred from working with both groups
