Civil Service Recruitment Principles: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

If any Scottish Government departments were discriminating against candidates of a white ethnic background in favour of candidates from a minority ethnic background in regards to job applications.

Response

The Scottish Government is bound to the Civil Service Commission Principles, which states that our recruitment must be fair, open, and based on merit. This means that we must appoint people to the Civil Service based on who meets the criteria published in the advert and is ranked as the top candidate. Discrimination against any ethnicity in favour of another is prohibited under the Equality Act 2010. Scottish Government holds itself to strict standards to ensure that we are compliant with the law.
