Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) Pension Investments: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

What exposure SPPA pensions - specially the NHS Scotland pension - has to Israel? Can you please let me know if any investments are domiciled in Israel as well as what percentage of revenue any invested funds generate from Israel? Furthermore, could you please let me know how much what investments the SPPA has (if any) in weapons manufacture and sales?

Response

The NHS pension scheme in Scotland is an unfunded “pay as you go” scheme for which the liabilities are underwritten by HM Treasury. As an unfunded scheme (as opposed to a funded arrangement), therefore, no investments of any kind are held to meet future liabilities.
