Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Information requested
The number of people currently on the Dynamic Support Register. You also asked for forensic inpatient beds that are not part of the register figures.
Response
The answer to your questions is: There are 1,398 people on the Dynamic Support Register as of census date 28 December 2023.
I enclose additional information and breakdown of the figures you requested in tables attached to this letter.
As you may be aware, data is collected nationally by Public Health Scotland every 3 months. This is compiled into a national publication every 6 months. Whilst Public Health Scotland are the data collectors and holders, I am happy to provide the latest management information data that was provided to us on 22 March and is in relation to the census point of 28 December 2023.
You have rightly noted in your request that an analysis of the data from the census point 28 March is scheduled to be published by PHS in May 2024.
Care needs to be taken during the early stages of this new data collection, as highlighted by PHS, given risks around incomplete returns while the local process of collation and submission of the data from all the participating systems matures.
There is no corresponding register for the NHS forensic estate, and I am enclosing a management information data table from the latest NHS Forensic bed report collated by the Forensic Network.
The total number of forensic low-secure NHS Learning Disability inpatient beds as of 01 April 2024 is 29. Patients admitted to forensic low-secure NHS learning disability inpatient beds may or may not be recorded on the Dynamic Support Register dependent upon local processes and case management.
