Information requested

Prior to the implementation of the new fire alarm regulations, stipulating the installation of linked alarms, the Scottish Government publicised it's planned implementation through a variety of postings and videos on social media (Facebook) and TV along with articles in the press.

Some of the publicity provided url: links to the Government’s recommended/approved suppliers.

I would be grateful if you could send me links to the relevant publicity videos, on line posts, documents, etc in particular those which allowed online links to the list of recommended suppliers.

Response

The Scottish Government created a range of assets as part of the public information awareness campaign about the change to the new fire alarms law from February 2022. The campaign ran across TV, Digital and Radio from 19 August – 26 September 2021, as well as printed leaflets being sent to all libraries in Scotland. No materials produced as part of the marketing campaign promoted or signposted to recommended suppliers to install fire alarms.

All campaign materials referred the public to Make sure your home is fire safe - mygov.scot for more information. Where there was specific messaging around the types of alarms that could be installed, whether that be battery operated or mains fitted, it was the recommendation that mains fitted alarms be installed by a qualified electrician. In this instance we again linked through to Make sure your home is fire safe - mygov.scot pages where you could find help finding a tradesperson by searching the Approved Trader Directory or the Approved Certifier of Construction Scheme
