Total number of FOIs submitted by the media not answered: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

How many foi requests by the media have not been provided over past two years? I.e. how many exempted due to cost or otherwise?

Response

The answer to your question is in the table below:

Total number of requests received by journalists (where that information is recorded on the case management system)

1099

Number of responses where information was released in response

879

Number of responses where no information was released in response

220

95 requests information was not released because exemptions were applied under FOISA
74 requests the information requested was not held
51 requests were refused due to cost grounds or were manifestly unreasonable

Outwith FOISA, you may find it helpful to note that there are factors which may affect the accuracy of this figure. While analyses of requesters by type may be helpful to an authority, recording of this is not a statutory obligation. The requester type (such as a member of the media) has no bearing on how we process their request.

When an FOI request is logged onto the case management system, it is not always obvious that the request is from a journalist and the requester type field is not always completed.
