Residential housing repossession figures: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

The latest figures for the number of property repossession cases initiated in Scotland.

The most recent figures available are from the publication Civil justice statistics in Scotland 2020-21 which is published here:

https://www.gov.scot/binaries/content/documents/govscot/publications/statistics/2022/04/civil-justicestatistics-scotland-2020-21/documents/civil-justice-statistics-scotland-2020-21/civil-justice-statisticsscotland-2020-21/govscot%3Adocument/civil-justice-statistics-scotland-2020-21.pdf

The relevant set of figures are on p24/25. I would like the same set of comparable figures for 2021/22 and the most up to date figures you have for 2022/23.

Response

The number of initiated cases for repossession of property at the sheriff courts in Scotland for 2021-22 is 1,187 of which 1,158 were for residential properties.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. The reason why we do not have initiated cases for 2022-23 is that we have not yet received this information as it is still being compiled by the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Services.
