Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

As of 7 September 2021, what progress has the Scottish Government had with designing a National Towns of Culture scheme?

Response

I enclose a copy of all of the information you requested.

The answer to your question is:

The National Towns of Culture scheme was announced in the manifesto and Programme for Government to ‘extend the reach of the arts by launching an open competition for further National Towns of Culture’. The scheme is in early stages of development and initial discussions have taken place between Ministers, officials and Creative Scotland to consider several different options. Any scheme taken forward will be consulted on with the cultural and creative sectors, and community groups.
