Housing Statistics (stock by tenure) from 2001: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

For “Housing Statistics: Stock by Tenure” data for 2001 to present. In particular, I would like the data that is broken down by local authority.

Response

We have updated the stock by tenure webtable to include stock by tenure at a local authority level from 2013. This also has stock by tenure for the whole of Scotland from 1993. Unfortunately, prior to 2013, our team did not publish this data at a local authority level so we are not able to provide this.

Please note, for the figures in the published Excel files, there will be a margin of error in the local authority results for owner occupier and private rented tenures. This is due to the use of the Scottish Household Survey to estimate these figures. Therefore, there would need to be some caution in looking at year on year changes for these tenures at a local authority level.

In addition, you may find the Scottish Household Survey Annual Report local authority tables useful. These provide some information on housing tenure by local authority area from 1999 onwards. Please note that the SHS figures will differ from those in the published stock by tenure Excel table as the SHS figures are based solely on the survey responses received. This differs to the housing statistics methodology which uses social stock figures in combination with Scottish Household Survey estimates for private dwellings. You can find the local authority tables from SHS here:
