Statistics regarding crimes on license: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

1. The number of offenders released on license who committed a crime whilst released on license. Please provide this information for the financial years of 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and so far in 2021-22. Please breakdown this information by the crime that was committed whilst released on license.

2. If possible breakdown the number of offenders who committed a crime whilst released on license by type of prisoner. For example, by life prisoner, sexual offender, other long-term prisoner, short-term prisoners etc. Please provide this information for the financial years of 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and so far in 2021-22.

The information you have requested is not held centrally, however we asked the Parole Board if they were able to provide the figures for the years you requested and they provided the following information:

From 1 April 2017 until end of March 2022 there were 1514 recalls

Information does not include short termers released on licence by the Scottish Prison Service, as Parole Scotland do not hold this information as they are not involved in the decision to release these individuals into the community.
