Public contracts obtained by companies based outside the UK: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

A list of public contracts obtained by companies based in countries outside the UK, what the contract was for and how much they were paid. This was subsequently clarified as the total value of the contract to each individual company based outside the UK going back from the present to 2007.

Response

I attach a copy of most the information you requested within the attached Document 1.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide the total value of to each individual contract from 1 January 2007 to 1 Apr 2008. This is because Public Contracts Scotland (PCS) was only established in 2008. PCS is the Scottish Government's official national portal for public sector contract opportunities and is where this data was taken from.

The volume of contracts listed within Document 1 represents an extremely small fraction of the totality of work awarded during this period with the vast majority of contracts being going to companies based both in Scotland and wider UK.

Note that the stated contract values are exclusive of VAT and are typically the value recorded at the point of award - which may sometimes take the form of either an estimate or a ceiling value.
