Policies and costs to support Just Transition: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

A list all of the policies (and the total amount spent on each policy) in the following Scottish Budgets which are considered to be targeted at supporting the Just Transition:

2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2021-2022.

Response

Some of the information you have requested is available from the Scottish Government Budgets. Just Transition is a central theme across Scottish Government Budget, and portfolios support a range of outcomes in line with the National Performance Framework.

For example, a given budget might support both just transition objectives and wider environmental ones. Therefore, due to the cross-cutting nature of the Scottish Government’s budget process, individual budgets are not allocated for the purpose of just transition and differentiated breakdowns across portfolios are not held.

Some further information is available from recent FOI request for costs incurred for the Just Transition Commission from 2018 Cost incurred by the Just Transition Commission: FOI release - gov.scot(www.gov.scot).

Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you.

In addition to the FOI, one additional cost has been accrued under budget for Just Transition which includes publication of the Scottish Government's response to the Just Transition Commission in September 2021. Costs totalled £4,167.
