Complaints received regarding Victim Notification Scheme (VNS): FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Any letters of complaint received about the Victim Notification Scheme. Please limit the date to between 1 August 2019 and the present date.

Response

While our aim is to provide information wherever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide all the information you have requested as the Scheme is administered by the Scottish Prison Service (SPS), therefore the Scottish Government is not in receipt of official complaints. An exemption under section 17 of FOISA applies as the information is not held by the Scottish Government. You therefore may wish to redirect your request to SPS.

However, the Victim Notification Scheme for victims of mentally disordered offenders (VNS MDO) which commenced in September 2017 is administered by the Victim Notification Scheme Administration Team within the Scottish Government. They have received no complaints within the time period you specify.
