Date received: 9 May 2021

Information requested

How many Scottish Government officials, or employees of the Scottish Government will receive tickets/invitations/hospitality at Euro 2020 this summer who did not successfully receive tickets through the official UEFA ballot held in 2019?

What assurances did the Scottish Government seek from UEFA around how many Scottish Football fans who had already been allocated tickets for Hampden at Euro 2020 would be given priority to the limited capacity before any further tickets were allocated?

What was the evidence to restrict Hampden to 25% when stadia in England will have a capacity of 50%?

Response

How many Scottish Government officials, or employees of the Scottish Government will receive tickets/invitations/hospitality at Euro 2020 this summer who did not successfully receive tickets through the official UEFA ballot held in 2019?

Ticketing for UEFA EURO 2020 is managed centrally by UEFA. Information on Scottish Government officials and employees who did not receive tickets through the UEFA ballot is not held. Upon formal receipt of any guest invitations for UEFA EURO 2020 matches, the Scottish Government will carefully consider an appropriate representation.

What assurances did the Scottish Government seek from UEFA around how many Scottish Football fans who had already been allocated tickets for Hampden at Euro 2020 would be given priority to the limited capacity before any further tickets were allocated?

Ticketing policy for EURO 2020 is managed centrally by UEFA. The Scottish Government have continued to work with partners to provide a safe environment for the people of Scotland to enjoy the tournament in a COVID-19 secure setting.

What was the evidence to restrict Hampden to 25% when stadia in England will have a capacity of 50%?

Public safety is paramount and the decision to permit spectators on the scale proposed for EURO 2020 matches at Hampden Park follows an extensive period of consultation between event organisers and national clinicians, with strict public health measures in place to ensure that fans can attend safely. Event plans will be continually assessed and reviewed by partners before and during the tournament taking into account the latest scientific evidence. The capacity for the matches at Wembley Stadium in London is a matter for UK Government and event partners.
