Pupil attendance: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

In relation to statistics collected regarding pupil attendance at schools from August 2020 to December 2020, please confirm whether or not pupils who are recorded by schools as being in self-isolation for COVID-19 related reasons are included in the measure 'Percentage of openings showing pupils were not in school because of any Covid-19 related reason'. Specifically, I am referring to the data on school attendance that is presented here:
https://public.tableau.com/profile/sg.eas.learninganalysis#!/vizhome/COVID19-SchoolsandChildcareInformation/Introduction

Response

The answer to your question is yes. 'Percentage of openings showing pupils were not in school because of any Covid-19 related reason' includes:

  • pupils who were not in school either because of a Covid-19 related sickness (i.e. have tested positive for Covid-19 or are displaying symptoms of Covid-19)
  • pupils who were not in school because their school was closed due to Covid-19
  • pupils who were not in school because they were self-isolating in relation to Covid-19
  • pupils who were not in school because their parent(s) chose to keep them away from school as
  • a precautionary measure contrary to public health guidance
