Individuals placed in temporary accommodation during the COVID-19 pandemic: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

You asked for the number of individuals sleeping rough/on the streets who were placed in temporary accommodation (hotels, hostels, bed and breakfast and/or otherwise) at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

You also asked at the end of the contracts with these forms of temporary accommodation, how many individuals returned back to sleeping rough.

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have most of the information you have requested. The reason for this is because this information is held by local authorities.

However, from 24 March until 31 August 2020, the Scottish Government provided over £1.5 million to third sector organisations in Edinburgh and Glasgow to enable them to acquire emergency hotel accommodation for 1,400 people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness during this time.
