Questions concerning the issuing of pension savings statements in Scotland 2018/2019: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

Q1. In respect of the 2018/19 pension input period (PIP), please provide details of:

a. The number of individuals who received automatic pension savings statement in accordance with regulation 14A of The Registered Pension Schemes (Provision of Information) Regulations 2006.

For the avoidance of doubt, this request covers standard pension savings statements issued to those whose defined benefit pension savings in any defined benefit NHS Pension Scheme in Scotland (ie excludes the money purchase AVC) breached the annual allowance in 2018/19 PIP.

b. The number of automatic pension savings statements issued as described under question 1a above which were issued after the 6thOctober 2019 deadline.

Q2. In respect of the 2018/19 pension input period and all defined benefit NHS Pension schemes in Scotland, please provide details of the number of pension savings statements issued under regulations 14A and 14B of The Registered Pension Schemes (Provision of Information) Regulations 2006 which were subject to amendment or withdrawal.

For the avoidance of doubt, this means the number of automatic or on demand pension savings statements issued in relation to defined benefit pension saving (ie excludes the money purchase AVC) in PIP 2018/19 which were subsequently modified, withdrawn or withdrawn and reissued due to error , updated data, incorrect data or other reasons.

The information below is provided in response to your questions, based on data which was available as at 31 March 2020.

Q1.b Issued after 06 October 2019 - 749 Percentage issued on time 20.66%

Q2. Revised statements issued - 173

Q2. Removed single scheme breaches after revision - 79

Please note this does not include GPs who received a 17/18 statement last year. 18/19 will be issued this year. The figures however do include NHS officers and dentists.

Please also note that revised statements also cover “on demand” statements and unfortunately can’t be separated out from the numbers.
