COVID-19 deaths in NHS Ayrshire: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

“I have been advised that a number of Private Care Homes in Ayrshire rejected admittance of NHS patients to their establishments unless those patients had been tested for COVID. In contrast I am advised that local authority operated Care Homes had no option but to admit them.

Are there figures available showing the number of COVID deaths in Private Care Homes and similarly those COVID deaths in local authority Care Homes in the County? This would reveal a comparison between the two.

I look forward to receiving this information.

If this information cannot be provided for the County as a whole, can it be provided for my Local Authority District ie South Ayrshire?.”

Response

As at 24th June 2020, there has been 132 deaths with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 in private adult care homes in the area of NHS Ayrshire & Arran. There has been 6 deaths with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 in publically-operated adult care homes (Local Authority or NHS). There has been a further 9 deaths with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 in adult care homes operated by voluntary/not-for-profit organisations.
