Criminal Proceedings in Scotland statistical bulletin conviction data: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

You referenced our Criminal Proceedings in Scotland statistical bulletin and asked for further data on convictions under specific sections of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009 covering rape and 'other sexual assaults'. Those sections being 1, 2, 4, 19, 20, 21, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 37 of the 2009 Act and their common law equivalents.
You also asked how many offenders have been subject to notification requirements, broken down by specific conviction.

Response

I enclose a copy of the available information you requested in an excel workbook.
With regards to the number of offenders subject to notification requirements, some information is published in the 'Multi-agency public protection arrangements (MAPPA) in Scotland: national overview report 2017 to 2018' although not broken down by crime type https://www.gov.scot/publications/multi-agency-public-protection-arrangements-mappa-scotland-national-overview-report-2017-18/. Please note that some individuals subject to notification requirements living in Scotland may not have been convicted in Scotland. However, we would suggest you contact either Police Scotland or the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service, who might be able to provide further information. They can be contacted at foi@scotland.pnn.police.uk or foi@scotcourts.gov.uk respectively.
