LGBT inclusive education recommendations: FOI release

You asked for the Scottish Government’s response to three questions about the LGBT inclusive education recommendations. I have set out our response to each of your questions in turn.
1. Please outline the work done to prepare for implementation of the recommendations of the LGBTI Inclusive Education working group following that announcement.
2. Please outline the value and beneficiaries of any Scottish Government funding to support the implementation of the LGBTI inclusive education working group between July 2018 and today.
3. Please detail the forecast budgetary considerations across Government of implementing the recommendations of the LGBTI inclusive education working group for the financial years 2019-20, 2020-21.

Response

1. Please outline the work done to prepare for implementation of the recommendations of the LGBTI Inclusive Education working group following that announcement.
As you mention in your request, the recommendations to deliver LGBT inclusive education were accepted in full by Scottish Ministers in November 2018. Since then an Implementation Group has been formed to oversee the delivery of the recommendations by March 2021. The LGBT Inclusive Education Implementation Group has met on five occasions this year. Papers relating to the group’s work, which includes notes of meetings and an action plan for delivery of the recommendations, can be found on the Scottish Government’s website:

2. Please outline the value and beneficiaries of any Scottish Government funding to support the implementation of the LGBTI inclusive education working group between July 2018 and today.
No Scottish Government funding has been allocated to support the implementation of the recommendations to date.This includes the period from July 2018 to the announcement of the recommendations on 8 November 2018.

3. Please detail the forecast budgetary considerations across Government of implementing the recommendations of the LGBTI inclusive education working group for the financial years 2019-20, 2020-21.
The recommendations are being implemented through the use of innovative partnership approaches, which draw on the expertise of the members of the Implementation Group to deliver improved learning environments for young people. As such, not all of the recommendations require budget from the Scottish Government, or other members of the Implementation Group, for their delivery. In 2019-20, no budget from the Scottish Government has been allocated for the implementation of the recommendations. As the Implementation Group has yet to agree the delivery method for the recommendations that have been identified for delivery in 2020-21, any Scottish Government budgetary requirements are currently unknown. Nevertheless, any budgetary decisions regarding the delivery of the recommendations will be recorded in the notes of the Implementation Group’s meetings, which will be published on the Scottish Government’s website.
