Response
Scottish Government agreed to provide Police Scotland with additonal funding of £825,000 for over 14,000 police officers and support staff to support the implementation of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018. The same funding was also used to develop a self-completion e-learning package on the new legislation which has been made available to all 22,000 staff. The funding was announced by the Scottish Government and Police Scotland, please find the respective news releases at: https://news.gov.scot/news/police-prepare-for-new-domestic-abuse-crime and https://www.scotland.police.uk/whats-happening/news/2018/may/safelives-deliver-police-domestic-abuse-training
Following a competitive procurement process Police Scotland identified SafeLives as the successful bidder to develop and deliver the training. The process recognised that the proposed provider was the candidate which most satisfactorily met the requirements of the Invitation to Tender, giving the panel the greatest confidence in successful delivery to support effective implementation of the legislation.
The Scottish Government provided Scottish Women’s Aid £166,000 to support the implementation of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 to develop bespoke training materials for Scottish Women’s Aid staff and training resources for use by other relevant organisations and local communities. Please find funding announcement at: https://news.gov.scot/news/funding-for-scottish-womens-aid.
The Scottish Government provides core funding to third sector organisations to deliver services for
victims of crime including domestic abuse which may include training.
