Telecommunication expenditure: FOI release
Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Information requested
You asked for spend on telecommunication for each government body (Local authorities, Central government, NHS, Colleges and universities or any other distinction) based on type of communication requirement (e.g. connectivity, WAN, Broadband, data, telephony, security, CCTV, data centres, and any other similar services). Ideally, such a data set in time series would be helpful (from 2014 to 2019).

Scottish Government does not hold all the information you are seeking in relation to the specific categories you have requested. However we have provided a broad list of telecommunications spend over the requested time span (2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18). We do not hold the full spend information for 2018/19. The information contained within this FOISA response has been extracted from the Scottish Procurement Information Hub which is a tool to assist public sector organisations to analyse their spend profile. All suppliers have been allocated to one spend category only where in reality, they may supply products and services that cover multiple categories. These limitations should be borne in mind when interpreting this response.
The data is based on core trade spend which is spend with suppliers that have also been classed as commercial organisations or as non-trade social care providers and with whom individual public bodies have spent over £1000 in aggregate in a 12 month period.
The ICT and Security Equipment & Services (specifically for CCTV spend) categories have been used to collate this information, based on vCode supplier taxonomy developed by the provider of the Scottish Procurement Information Hub. The information is provided where vCode vendor category is known.
