Tuition fee loans as standard and lower fee rate courses: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You asked for the number and titles of courses that receive funding for fees that differ from the normal fee rate for that course, the amount of fees paid and the reason for the difference.

Response

Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) pay the following amounts of tuition fee/tuition fee loan as standard for the specified course:

HNC, HND or equivalent - £1,285
Degree or equivalent and PGDE - £1,820
Courses at Private Institutions – £1,205

We have identified that we are paying a different tuition fee rate for the courses below. We have also provided an explanation as to why this is.

Bachelor of Divinity in Theology - £1,765. Reason: Historical arrangement with Edinburgh Baptist College to pay an alternative tuition fee rate.

MBCHB  Medicine - £2,895. Reason: Historical agreement to pay the higher rate for medicine courses. These fee rates are paid to students who started the course when this tuition fee rate applied.
