You asked for information about the Department for Justice Local Area Network (LAN) environment.
Response
The answers to your questions regarding the Department for Justice Local Area Network (LAN) environment are contained in the attached Annex below your questions. The Department is integrated within the main SCOTS network and the response reflects this.
ANNEX
Please can you send me the organisation’s Local Area Network (LAN) contract, which may include the following:
- Support and Maintenance- e.g. switches, router, software etc
- Managed- If this includes services than just LAN.
1. Contract Type: Managed or Maintenance
A In Scotland, the Justice Directorate receives a managed ICT service (known as SCOTS Connect) from the Scottish Government which provides a range of products and services including hardware, software, application infrastructure, administration, management support and maintenance of the network and devices and network security. This service is provided mainly through in-house resource.
2. Existing Supplier: Who is the current supplier?
A GCICOM Freedom Communications provide maintenance for the core switches.
3. Annual Spend for each supplier: What is the annual average spending on the supplier above? If there is more than one supplier please split the annual averages spend for each supplier.
A The annual maintenance cost for the provision of the LAN element of the SCOTS Connect service is £13,942.00.
4. Number of Users: Please can you provide me with the number of users this contract covers. Approximate number of users will also be acceptable.
A The managed ICT service is provided to 12,000 users.
5. Number of Sites: The number of sites, where equipment is supported by each contract.

A The core switch maintenance is renewed annually in February.
