Cost of Named Persons policy and ministerial briefings related thereto: FOI release

How much has the Named Persons policy cost the Scottish Government in the past five years? Please break the information down by: court costs/legal advice, payments to the NHS for training and delivering the policy, payments to local authorities for training and delivering the policy, and any other costs or cost estimates.

 

Please also include any briefings prepared by civil servants in 2018 for SG ministers on the cost of Named Persons.

 

 

Some of the information you have requested is available from a previously released FOI requesting “a breakdown of all legal costs incurred by the Scottish Government to date in relation to the creation, set up and implementation of the Named Person Scheme and any estimated or projected future legal costs. This can be accessed online at https://www.gov.scot/publications/foi-17-02462/. Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we are not required to provide information which is already reasonably accessible to you. 

In regards to your second point, “any briefings prepared by civil servants in 2018 for SG ministers on the cost of Named Persons.” While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. The reason that we do not have this information is that the Scottish Government has not produced any briefings to Ministers in relation to the cost of Named Persons in 2018.
