You asked for:

  1. the number of schools in Scotland in 2014/15 and 2017/18 with one or more teachers whose main subject was Modern Studies
  2. the number schools in 2014 with no Modern Studies teachers
  3. the cost to run Modern Studies teaching in schools.  
Response
  1. As at the September 2014 school staff census there were 271 secondary schools with a full-time equivalent (FTE) greater than 0 for teachers with a main subject of Modern Studies. As at the September 2017 school staff census there were 274 secondary schools with a FTE greater than 0 for teachers with a main subject of Modern Studies.
  2. As at the September 2014 school staff census there were 91 secondary schools with a FTE of 0 for teachers with a main subject of Modern Studies.
  3. Information on the cost to run Modern Studies teaching in schools is not collected by the Scottish Government.
