Information requested

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act to request the following information. If the information can be provided faster than 20 days, please do so.

Any invoices/receipts for purchases of alcohol by Scottish Government ministers paid in 2017 or 2018.

Response

Providing alcohol at government expense is allowed when official hospitality is at a restaurant or reception, where a modest amount of alcohol can be provided in line with the Scottish Government policy on alcohol. Purchases of alcohol by Scottish Government ministers paid by Scottish Government in 2017 or 2018 are as follows:

  • 13 July 2017: £12 for alcohol paid as part of official hospitality (a meal for three people) hosted by the Minister for Transport and the Islands. The then Minister for Transport and the Islands does not consume alcohol, and this purchase was for guests. 
  • 14 May 2018: £73.50 for alcohol paid as part of official hospitality (a meal for eight people) hosted the Cabinet Secretary for The Rural Economy and Connectivity.
