Information requested

1) All information that the Scottish Government hold on ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) in relation to prison/prisoners.

2) All information on the Government’s bill called Scotland’s Suicide Prevention Plan.

Response

I am responding to the first of your questions, as policy responsibility for the second question lies with a different area within the Scottish Government. 

The Scottish Government has not undertaken any research specifically relating to ACEs in prisons/amongst prisoners. However, the Scottish Prison Service covered this topic in their 2017 prisoner survey (pages 36-41): http://www.sps.gov.uk/Corporate/Publications/Publication-6101.aspx

In addition, the available evidence on the links between childhood adversity and criminality and victimisation in adulthood has been summarised in the Scottish Government publication “Understanding Childhood Adversity, Resilience and Crime”:
