Government funding for tourist attractions 2016 to 2017: FOI release

Information requested

For the last full financial year, please provide details of any public subsidies or other monetary funding provided by the government to tourist attractions in Scotland. These tourist attractions should be permanent in nature, such as museums, art galleries, science centers, etc., not temporary attractions such as farmers markets, travelling fairgrounds, etc.

Please find below the information you have requested.

In financial year 2016/17 the Scottish Government provided funding to our Cultural Collections:

National Galleries of Scotland - £12.99m revenue and £2.45m capital,

National Museums of Scotland - £21.25m revenue and £1.35m capital,

In this regard the Scottish Government also funds the National Library of Scotland although this is a collection used primarily for research and education and as such I have not included details.

The Scottish Government also provided funding to:

National Mining Museum - £410,000 revenue and £25,000 capital,

National Fisheries Museum - £75,000 revenue and £65,000 capital,

National Maritime Museum - £420,000 revenue and £50,000 capital,

David Livingstone Centre - £30,000 revenue,

Science Centres were provided with the following funding:

Aberdeen Science Centre - £287,500

Dundee Science Centre- £373,500

Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh - £940,000

Glasgow Science Centre- £1,024,000
