Violence Prevention Framework for Scotland: Fairer Scotland Duty summary

This assessment evaluates the equality and socio-economic impacts of the Violence Prevention Framework for Scotland.

Summary of aims and expected outcomes of strategy, proposal, programme or policy

The Violence Prevention Framework for Scotland is a commitment set out in the three year Delivery Plan of the Vision for Justice in Scotland 2022[1], and supports the National Outcome; We live in communities that are inclusive, empowered, resilient and safe[2].

The overall vision of the Framework is to review the evidence and strengthen our approach to prevent non-sexual crimes of violence, and when these do occur, to reduce its harm. It will set out the four aims[3] on which we will focus our violence prevention work, to address the underlying causes of violence before it occurs, prevent escalation of violence and reduce the harm of violence.

Within these 4 aims we will deliver against 14 specific actions and adapt as necessary to tackle relevant and up to date challenges on the horizon issues pertaining to violence. Taking a public health approach, each action will be targeted towards prevention (primary, secondary and tertiary), those most affected and at risk of experiencing violence (victim/offender).
