Temporary closures of schools and nurseries - statutory guidance update: equality impact assessment

Equality impact assessment (EQIA) for updated statutory guidance for the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 on the temporary closure of schools and council‑run early learning and childcare settings ("mothballing") .

Recommendations and Conclusion

The EQIA concluded that the updated temporary closure guidance does not introduce direct or indirect discrimination and did not identify positive or negative equality impact for any protected characteristic. As a result, no mitigating actions or policy changes were required.

Existing Equality Act 2010 duties on local authorities continue to apply.

Although no equality impacts were identified, equality considerations will continue to be monitored as part of regular policy review. This will include monitoring any feedback from local authorities, monitoring casework under the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010, and monitoring future correspondence to identify any emerging equality related concerns.
