Schools - risk assessment guidance: equality impact assessment

Equality impact assessment for risk assessment guidance on fostering a positive, inclusive and safe environment and violent, aggressive and dangerous behaviour.

The Scope of the EQIA

A full EQIA was undertaken.

This considered all of the relevant protected characteristics as they apply to schools. In addition, the protected characteristic of age was also considered, recognising that the effect of the guidance would apply to younger people. Further, the three Public Sector Equality Duties were also considered.

The approach to the development of the EQIA focussed on published research, which was commissioned and is focussed on the specific issue of relationships and behaviour in schools in Scotland. This was supplemented by statistical data. The development of the guidance documents was fully informed by the experience of practitioners and this was also reflected within the EQIA process.
