Equally Safe: consultation - easy read

Easy Read version of the consultation seeking views on how best to challenge men’s demand for prostitution in Scotland, reducing the harms associated with prostitution and supporting women involved to exit.

The impact of coronavirus on prostitution

The coronavirus has put women and girls at more risk of harm.

Research has shown that during the lockdown, some women were unable to plan their safety as well as normal. This is because they thought services would not help them during the lockdown and tell them to stay indoors away from other people not in their family. They were less likely to access services as a result.

Some women felt they had no other option but to continue to offer and sell sex to make money to support themselves and their families. This causes a public health risk and puts vulnerable women in danger.

Question 1. Do you think the Scottish Government's current laws on prostitution are enough to stop violence against women and girls?

Question 2. What impact do you think the coronavirus has had on women involved in prostitution in Scotland?
