Equally Safe: consultation - easy read

Easy Read version of the consultation seeking views on how best to challenge men’s demand for prostitution in Scotland, reducing the harms associated with prostitution and supporting women involved to exit.

What is Prostitution?

Prostitution is buying or selling sex.

The Scottish Government has a plan to end violence against women and girls. This plan is called 'Equally Safe'.

In Scotland, prostitution is included within the definition of violence against women and girls.

In the consultation paper, 'prostitution' means the buying and selling of sex. This can involve women and men, and can happen on the street or indoors. This type of behaviour in our society mostly happens when a male is purchasing sex from a female.

The consultation focuses on men paying for sex with women. It does not look at other kinds of sexual behaviour such as lap-dancing and porn.
