What the Scottish Government is thinking about changing
We are looking at changing the law so that non harassment orders can be used in alternatives to prosecution as well.
If the law was changed, these good things would happen:
- victims get protection and do not have to stand up and speak in court
- crime cases are dealt with more quickly
- not as much court time is taken up
But these things also need to be thought about:
- some people see alternatives to prosecution as less of a punishment than going to court
- some people might think that if a crime is serious enough to need a non harassment order, then it should be going to court
